Quite a few gallery spaces around Melbourne do that New York loft thing, however, it's rare to encounter one that actually spans three floors of a building - a beautiful old furniture factory at that. Guildford Lane exhibits contemporary art in all its weird and wonderful guises, as well as hosting an open artist studio, complete with a living, working artist going about their business. Another initiative is the 'Wednesday Project', whereby artists curate a free performance or lecture every Wednesday night. Keeping things interesting, over and above the usual monthly exhibition changeover.
